Also this year the project “The job of the craftsman – Welcome to my workshop!”, promoted by Confartigianato Venezia and the cultural association Artsystem, has repeated.
During the month of April the Murano glassmasters Moreno Bardella, Vittorio Ferro, Paolo Rioda, Gino Salmistrari, Livio Serena and Luigi Visentini, assisted by Elena Rosso, met the students of the schools of the Province of Venice. Classes showed great enthusiasm for the glass transforming from viscous shapeless liquid to solid material that can assume various aspects thanks to the skill of the School masters who are able to give shape to objects of incredible charm.

n the month of May the Abate Zanetti Glass School hosted the students of the art school Liceo Artistico Statale Michelangelo Guggenheim of Venice, led by professors M. Barbini and R. Pavanello. Master Livio Serena created a series of glass prototypes interpreting with great skill the drawings of students who had an experience useful to understand the glassblowing technique, expression of the Murano glass tradition.

The Abate Zanetti Glass School has featured part of the summer workshops scheduled July 15-23 and dedicated to students of the degree course in industrial design. Students this year are dealing with a planning experience based on ceramic and glass, subject connected with the territory characteristics and to its productive districts.

The opening conference and the official presentation of the workshop took place in Treviso on Thursday, July 15 and students, designers and tutors took part in. The task of the School in this planning procedure has been explained.

Friday, July 16, from 10 to 12, the demonstration took place at the School, coordinated with a lecture at the Stazione Sperimentale del Vetro, in order to approach students to the matter. Besides students, divided into two groups, also the teachers/designers Emmanuel Babled and Luca Nichetto attended the demonstration following the glass projects.

During April and May 2010 the Abate Zanetti Glass School studios have been opened to schools of the Venice Province through guided demonstrations and learning activities during which students of different classes have understood the importance of drawing in glass masters’ training and have had the chance to meet directly some of them, watching them at work. Bepi Toso Fei, Livio Serena, Vittorio Ferro, Luigi Visentini, Mario Gambaro, with their stories and long experience have let students know and appreciate the fascinating glass world.
The Abate Zanetti Glass School has therefore supported with enthusiasm the project “The job of the craftsman – Welcome to my workshop!” promoted by the cultural association Artsystem in collaboration with Confartigianato Venezia. The valorization of the ancient art of glassworking, thanks to the transmission of knowledge of glassmasters, is still important for the island preservation and relaunch.

La memoria del vetro è una pubblicazione che nasce con l'intento di raccogliere il patrimonio di tradizione e cultura vetraria dell'isola di Murano attraverso la storia orale, che è anche la storia di una comunità e del sapere collettivo. Grazie alle testimonianze di circa quaranta maestri, a cominciare da Alfredo Barbini, vengono sottolineati i cambiamenti di oltre mezzo secolo di arte vetraria del Novecento. Allo stesso tempo vengono restituite alla collettività le memorie perché continuino ad essere patrimonio comune sia della gente che le ha vissute, sia  di chi è venuto dopo e rischia essere privato di una parte importantissima della propria storia.
In una prima parte introduttiva viene analizzato il contesto ambientale e la vita sociale di Murano, quindi l'organizzazione del lavoro nella fornace, anche alla luce di  Capitolare dell'Arte.
In una seconda parte vengono affrontate le tematiche legate alla storia personale dei maestri: dall'apprendistato in giovane età, al rapporto con la creatività e il disegno, fino  alla trasmissione del mestiere.
Il volume, edito da Marsilio , corredato da foto e da una breve nota biografica dei maestri, è stato realizzato con il contributo dell'Assessorato alle Attività Produttive del Comune di Venezia.

 

Andrea Tosi

Nato a Venezia  nel 1965, si  laurea in Lettere Moderne a Cà Foscari  con una tesi in Etnologia sui Vetrai di Murano nel '900. Giornalista Pubblicista dal 1991, collabora con alcuni periodici e con il quotidiano La Nuova Venezia. Nel 1998 è stato fondatore e direttore responsabile della rivista trimestrale "Vetro", emanazione del  Centro Studio Vetro. Dal 2004 lavora presso la Scuola del Vetro Abate Zanetti.
