Description
HOTSHOP
The aim is to gain familiarity with the basic technique of warm glass and, through the practice of such an ancient tradition, to leap in time thanks to continuous oral spread of the most ancient method of glass production. Students will learn how to gather glass from the kiln (first pick up), to fix up the nucleus of the glass object (marvering and blowing), then to pick up later and give a first shape to the glass mass, to prepare a punty for the junction, give glass to the master, up to realization, first helped by others and then by oneself, of simple objects such as a glass or a bowl.
FUSING
The workshop for beginners introduces the fundamental technique of flat fusing. Cutting, assembly and firing of simple flat objects, will allow students to know possibilities and limits of this technique. Once a good level of knowledge of basic techniques is reached , student will be dealing with flat fusion of various layers, using frits , wires, sheets of different thickness. Slumping techniques will be also covered.
LAMPWORKING
Students, after having received information about equipment and safety, will be introduced to the lampworking technique. Objective of the course is the realization of the first basic objects, made first hand-built then with the use of tweezers using glass rods of different colours and dimensions. The course will focus on basic techniques in order to deal in a later course with beadmaking, sculptural lampworking or blown lampworking.
STAINED GLASS
During this course students will design and realize stained glass with lead joints or the assembly with copper (“Tiffany” technique). The studio, equipped with tables and tools, enable students to go further into the depth of achieving and fulfilling all the phases of stained glass work.
In the various steps of glass working they will use the glass fundamental techniques of the ancient and contemporary stained glass (also with the preparation of paper models and classical stained glass panel) and the various methods of assembling. Concepts of function of stained glass window, plate, glass panel, glass container, glass elements for interior design.
In some cases students will get in contact with different glass techniques: fusing, coldworking, smoothing and polishing, application and firing of black grisaille.

PRIVATE LESSONS AND TEAM-BUILDING
The Abate Zanetti Glass School can arrange, upon request, private lessons for one or more persons, small groups or for any person wishing to experience a team-building for groups of professionals or for a group of friends.
The School tutors are also available to coordinate artists and designers in realizing their works.
